Petticowick St Abb's Scotland Petticowick. A small cove around the headland to the west of St Abb's harbour. Access is by a small road between Scoutscroft and St Abbs village, the road is single track and parking is limited at the cove, ( please don't block the road as access is sensitive ). The path down to the beach is steep and the last few metres very slippery, we carry gear down before kiting up. Dive from the old jetty, to the right is scenic diving over kelp with large boulders and gullies, the marine life is superb. To the left is the wreck of the 'Odense' or 'Peanut boat', the boat is well scattered and can be found after a long surface swim to the west past the large rock in the middle of the bay, then descend to 15m continuing west, metalwork can soon be found as it is well scattered over the sea bed. A large boiler and engine parts can also be found, the boiler is sat on its end with its tubes full of life, (shame my Nic is still full of salty water). When diving the 'Odence' be careful of boat traffic as this is a popular boat dive from St Abbs and you are a long way from shore.
Adopt a Wreck Scheme Dive in the Pink have adopted Petticowick under the 'NAS' adopt a wreck scheme, we plan to research and survey the site and hopefully save the jetty from further damage as it is now showing signs of serious decay. The track down to the jetty has been destroyed for safety reasons after a land slip, making access to the jetty and beach very difficult and after rain dangerous.
Dive in the Pink would like to restore this path which could make the site accessible to the disabled, although it would still mean a steep ramp up to the road, as shore based diving at St Abb's harbour is mainly over rocks this would mean the marine reserve would be open to all. This would be a massive project and would need considerable manpower and finance as the area is in a very environmentally delicate location.

We are hopfully carrying out a Beach clean on the 18th of September as part of PADI's Project AWARE International Cleanup Day. Because of limited parking near the Bay, if you would like to help, please let me know in advance. ian.schofield@diveinthepink.co.uk Dive in the Pink is therefore looking for volunteers and sponsors for the project, so if you would like to help in anyway please contact ian.schofield@diveinthepink.co.uk
